ColorHunt is a unique scavenger hunt game on iOS. Instead of finding objects like a traditional scavenger hunt, you find colors in the real world using your device's camera. We built it during a 24-hour hackathon, winning 1st place in the "Best Game" category and "Best Overall App".
With ColorHunt, we wanted to make a fun multiplayer game that got players off the couch and encouraged them to interact with the real world.
Organizing games with a group of people can get pretty hectic, so I wanted to keep the UI as clean and simple to allow players to start a game as quickly as possible while dealing with a bunch of rowdy friends.
Players are able to customize their game by selecting the number of colors they want to find and how long they want the game to last. We have future plans for customization such as geofencing options, and custom color palettes.
The more players show up, the more fun you're going to have. Simple as that.
Finding and matching colors as quickly as possible is the name of the game. By using the device's camera, players take a snapshot of anything in the real world (no screens, cheater!) that closely matches a color they need to find.
I created a minimal UI that emphasized the camera frame and allowed players to easily select a color, take a picture, match that color, and submit it for scoring.
Players are ranked based on points given for the accuracy of their submitted colors. To keep competition fierce, only one is crowned the color king or queen.
